Glossary

Short definitions of every term you’ll meet in Conpass and in event announcements. Each one has its own link, so you can share exactly the one you need.

Alert ladder
The fixed reminder schedule before a deadline: 14, 7, 3 and 1 days before, then 2 hours before. One event never fires two rungs on the same day.
Audience quality
An estimate of who is likely in the room, from public signals such as the organiser, ticket price, sponsors, speaker seniority and format. Never from attendee lists.
Capture
Sending Conpass something you found yourself: a post, part of a page, a poster image or a QR code picked with the browser extension, a forwarded email or a link sent to the Telegram bot.
CFP (call for papers or speakers)
An invitation to submit a talk or paper for an event. CFP deadlines often fall months before the event itself.
Clock
The deadline tracker that watches ticket releases, early-bird cut-offs, calls for speakers and registration closes, and reminds you on a fixed ladder before each one.
ConpassBot
The crawler that reads public event pages for Conpass. It identifies itself, obeys robots.txt and crawl delays, and limits how often it visits each site.
Digest
The once-a-day summary of what matters, delivered at a local time you choose. Designed to be read in two minutes.
Early bird
A discounted ticket price that ends on a set date or when an allocation sells out.
Feasibility
How realistic attending is, given travel time, your weekend days, overnight stays, visa lead times and how many workdays you can spare each month.
Home base
The city Conpass measures everything from: your time zone, currency, weekend days and travel times. You can set it anywhere in the world.
Hot watch
Frequent checking of a ticket page in the hours around an announced ticket drop, so a change reaches you within minutes.
ICS feed
A calendar subscription link. Add it to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook to see committed events and their deadlines next to your meetings.
Lead time
How many days of warning you had between Conpass first surfacing an event and the first deadline that mattered.
Miss rate
The share of relevant events you heard about somewhere else before Conpass showed them to you. Conpass uses it to measure coverage.
Plan
A monthly shortlist that fits your budget, your spare workdays and your calendar, with the trade-offs explained.
Radar
Your ranked list of events, grouped by what needs action today, the best next moves, events to watch and new finds.
Reach
How far from your home base you are willing to go. Conpass uses it as a geo-fence: events inside your reach are ranked normally, events outside appear only when one of your goals justifies the trip.
Region pack
Local knowledge for a country or city: venues, organisers, holidays, place names in local scripts and travel times. A region with a pack gets more local sources and better place matching.
Relevance
How closely an event matches one of the goals you described. Each goal is matched separately so one strong match is not diluted by the others.
robots.txt
A file website owners use to tell crawlers what they may read. ConpassBot checks it before every fetch.
Sighting
One place an event was seen. A single conference might have eight sightings: a ticketing page, social posts, news stories and the organiser’s own site. Conpass merges them into one event and keeps every sighting.
Structured event data
Machine-readable event details embedded in a web page, usually schema.org Event markup. Conpass reads it first because it is exact.
Ticket drop
The moment tickets for a popular event go on sale. Often announced days ahead with an exact time, and the reason many people miss sold-out events.
True cost
Ticket price plus travel, lodging, meals and the workdays an event consumes, valued at your own day rate.
Workday value
What a day of your time is worth to you. Conpass uses it to price the workdays an event takes away.
